The organization is dedicated to offering a continuum of high-quality care and services tailored to the needs of residents. It focuses on promoting wellness, independence, and quality of life for each individual. Residents are encouraged to maintain self-determination and personal choice within a caring, person-centered community. Role Description The Cook in Long Term Care is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of residents in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include following recipes, ensuring proper portion control, and adhering to food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention standards. The Cook collaborates with dietary and nursing teams to accommodate special diets, allergies, and texture modifications, and assists with maintaining inventory, rotating stock, and minimizing food waste. The role also involves cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas, and supporting a positive dining experience for residents. This is an on-site role located in Vaughan, ON. Qualifications Demonstrated skills in food preparation, cooking, and meal presentation in a commercial or institutional kitchen setting. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and infection control practices, including safe food handling and storage. Experience working with specialized diets (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, texture-modified) and following menu plans and dietary guidelines. Ability to work efficiently in a team environment, communicate effectively with colleagues and residents, and maintain a respectful, client-centered approach. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks, meal schedules, and inventory control. Relevant culinary or cook certification, Safe Food Handling certification, and previous experience in long-term care or healthcare settings are assets. Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, lifting supplies, and operating kitchen equipment safely.
